Communion for Kids & Youth

We love welcoming kids and youth into the Sanctuary on Sundays—it's a beautiful opportunity for the whole church family to worship together. As they join in singing, Scripture readings, and other elements of the service, children and youth are also invited to participate meaningfully in the sacrament of communion, deepening their sense of belonging and spiritual formation.

How are kids and youth to participate in communion?

In the Anglican church, we recognize two sacraments, or holy rituals, given to us by Jesus: baptism and communion. In high-level terms, while baptism represents our belonging to God’s family of the church, communion (or holy eucharist) is the family meal that sustains God’s people. Communion, then, is for those baptized into the faith, regardless of the tradition within which that baptism took place.

What if a child is not yet baptized?

At Trinity, we invite all present in Sunday worship to participate in the communion liturgy either by taking the elements as a baptized believer or by receiving a blessing from the servers. To receive a blessing, kids and youth come forward with everyone else, cross their arms over their chest, and the servers will speak words of blessing. We believe that blessing matters and that movement to the front of the sanctuary is a meaningful act of faith!

Interested in baptism?

If your child is curious about baptism or communion, we offer classes twice a year covering these questions. Be on the lookout for these opportunities, and please reach out to our Kids & Youth pastor team with any questions.
