Lectio Divina
READ
For your first reading, read the text slowly with expectation. Listen to the still small voice of the Lord. Pay attention to any word, phrase or image that seems to stand out to you. It could be encouraging or challenging. It could be something that surprises you. Receive whatever emerges with the wonder and curiosity of a child.
Spend a few moments meditating on the word, phrase or image that caught your attention. Turn the word or phrase over in your mind slowly a few times or watch the image play out in your imagination. Allow the meaning to sink in and associations to arise.
REFLECT
Read the text again, slowly and with expectation. Spend a few moments reflecting on the word, phrase, or image that stood out to you. What does this say about you and where you are right now? What does it reveal about God and His nature? What in your life needs to hear this? How does it connect to your current circumstances? Notice what emotions, memories or reflections arise in you.
RESPOND
Read the text for a third time. This time, listen for an invitation in the word, phrase or image you have been reflecting on. What is God asking of you or inviting you into? What does He want you to know? Respond honestly to God from your heart about what is stirring inside of you. Is there something concrete that you could do to cooperate with what God is showing you?
REST
Listen to the words as you read the text this final time in the knowledge that God cares for you and for those things that concern you. Then allow yourself to rest quietly in his care for a few moments.
RESOLVE
Carry the passage with you in to your day/week. Keep returning to its impact and invitation as you learn how to integrate it into your everyday life.
