Annual Report
2024

A joyful community.

Trinity Members,

There is so much to celebrate and reflect upon as we consider the past year at Trinity. First and foremost, I want to celebrate the profound sense of new life that has blossomed as we emerged from the challenging pandemic years. We have weathered the storm together, and our bonds have grown stronger. We celebrated our 20th Birthday this past October, and as I reflect on two decades of faith, growth, and shared experiences, it is evident that this church is both durable and beautiful. Trinity’s history is a testament to the faithfulness of God and the wonderful people he’s drawn into this story.

This past year also marked a time when our team worked to articulate our core identity and purpose clearly. The emergence of our 5 Core Commitments, as well as our strategic plan to support those commitments, has been the shared work of both staff and vestry members alike. We believe that this foundational work will set us up for greater clarity as we seek to remain faithful to do the work God has called us to do. It brings me joy that we have re-engaged the concept of membership at Trinity, and God will use us as members to advance the mission and core commitments of our church. I look forward to seeing how we, as a member community, will grow together as we press into what God has called us to here at Trinity.

There’s so much more to celebrate. Whether it’s a host of new hires, including two new pastors (welcome Nate and Katie O!), onboarding new Vestry members, Trinity’s hosting of a bishop’s consecration for our diocese, or the launching of Incarnation, we have experienced much life over the past year. Please join me as we note God’s kindness and provision for our church.

Five Core Commitments

We exist to be a joyful community of disciples who together:

Embody practices and postures that lead to the restoration of our whole person

Make space for meaningful and reconciled relationships

Participate in God’s kingdom work by using our gifts locally and throughout the world

Experience the love of God and life in the Holy Spirit

Invite people into friendship with Jesus

Sundays & Gatherings

How far we have come in the last few years! We've gone from online church to gathering within circles in our parking lot to finally being back to scooting "to your left, my right" on Sundays. We are celebrating and praising God for all that He is doing through this church. We're growing again, too, particularly with young people! Nearly one-third of our congregation is in Kids & Youth. That's double the national average of 15%!

Neighborhood Groups

We have 40 Neighborhood Groups meeting all around the city. These groups of 10-20 folks gather weekly to pray, unpack the sermon, and practice “being the church.” And in doing so, our prayer is that we would be shaped more and more into people whose love overflows to the world around us, building God’s Kingdom here on earth. Teams

If you call Trinity home, joining a team is how you help “set the table” for people to encounter Jesus at our church. As a family, we are all invited to do our part. From Kids and Youth to Hospitality and Coordination to Worship, Prayer, and Communion Serving — Teams are how we live out the call to serve our church family well inside the walls of Trinity. In our second year since launching Teams, we have been blown away by the way this community has responded to the call to join at Team. Learn more about teams here.

Evangelism & Discipleship

This past year, under the leadership of Evangelism and Discipleship Pastor Adrienne Christian, Trinity has reimagined what Sunday evenings look like. Beginning in January 2023, we initiated 4-6 week studies as a way to learn in community, engage with God, and go home better equipped to study the Bible on our own. This past year's studies included teaching on Trinity's core commitments, the gospel of John, Psalms of Lament, and the Old Testament. We hope to continue this rhythm and will incorporate both contemplative and biblical studies that are aligned with the liturgical calendar.

Growing as followers of Christ and sharing what we've learned are core aspects of being a part of Trinity that touch on a variety of aspects of our church. Whether it's through our Care ministry, Kids & Youth, or the ways that we do life together, hopefully you will see more and more the red thread of evangelism and discipleship in the things we do.

Community & Connection

We aim to be a “JOYFUL community of disciples.” As a church this past year, we have really leaned into joy! In addition to numerous Trivia Nights, Second Sunday Potlucks, and a Trinity softball league, we had a huge 20th Birthday Bash in the backyard, complete with a cake-baking competition! We had a big Christmas Eve Dinner in our gym with the most incredible potluck feast. We also gathered for the 10th year at Sharptop Cove for our annual retreat. We believe the Lord delights in our joy!

Benevolence

At Trinity we want you to be seen, supported, and equipped to engage fully and honestly all seasons of your own life and the lives of those around you with hope in Jesus’ good presence and the Holy Spirit’s restorative power. We also want to resource and empower you to “take up your mat” as you move toward more healing and freedom to become the person God has made you to be, both for your sake and for the benefit of those around you.

Trinity Kids

Foundation building is our theme this year, starting with hiring Katie Oosse as Kids Pastor and making the roles of Katie Bergeron and Allie Dunivant permanent! Katie O. and the team have worked hard to create safe environments, improve admin systems, and build our volunteer leader team. A special thanks to so many of you for responding to the call to serve with Trinity Kids! With this groundwork in place, we are excited to reimagine curriculum and practices aligned with our Core Commitments, particularly with the goal of forming the next generation of joyful disciples in the context of worship and relationship. Trinity Youth

Trinity Youth is a place to belong without condition where you are invited to take the next step in faith, in spiritual friendship and in influence. This year, we’ve been blessed to live this out on Sunday mornings, Tuesday nights, in-town retreats, another trip to Ecuador, one-on-ones, and all with an increasing number of students! In fact, 2023 saw us hit new highs in participation! Numbers are great, but a true blessing is the fact that we have an amazing group of committed, caring adults who live out their faith and have helped to create a culture where every student is seen, heard, and encouraged. Partnerships

In addition to financial giving, Trinity provides pastoral and strategic support through key partnerships in our city and beyond. The support has a wide range of expression: weekly tutoring for students, providing building space & storage for an afterschool program and food aid ministry, providing for and leading retreats locally and abroad, sending people overseas, serving at Health Day and putting together cold weather and hygiene kits for those facing homelessness in our city, cleaning our parks, packing food to be distributed to our students in the APS system, and near countless volunteer hours and energy throughout the year! Generosity

Through your generosity, over $3.2 million has been given away since 2020 in the form of benevolence in our community, financial support for local and global missions, and campaigns such as RIP Medical Debt, church planting, and funding for mission trips to Ecuador and the DR.

$115,000+ Given to Local Mission

Using the $300,000+ we raised together, RIP Medical Debt was able to purchase and abolish $38,006,227.04 worth of crushing medical debt for literally thousands of people!

Financial Report

Looking back over the fiscal year (FY23) our hearts are filled with gratitude for the financial blessings God has provided through the generosity of our congregation. Looking to the future.

Earlier this year, we undertook a strategic planning process to discern and identify ways to live out our 5 Core Commitments in the fiscal year beginning October 2023. Our Ministry Leadership Team led the collaborative process with input from our whole staff and our vestry. We entered the process with a sense of humility and readiness to listen to God, to each other, and to what we have seen and heard in our congregation and our Atlanta community. The process yielded a number of strategic priorities as well as specific goals to support these priorities.
